FEMA - Hurricane Helen
FEMA 800-621-3362
Disaster: 4827
We are looking to apply for essential needs to be replaced or recouped, if you were without power for more than 3 days (72 hours).
Apply on the FEMA app or at www.disasterassistance.gov. When applying without having any damage to your home, be sure to continue through answering the questions in regards to your loss of power and if the power is still out. It will also ask about loss of any medical equipment. Be sure to accurately list everyone that resided in the home. There should only be one claim made per address.
Even if you get notification that your assistance has NOT been approved, do not stop there.
If (like me) you assumed when it asked about home/personal property damage you checked yes (to me, personal property lost was our food) then they are awaiting additional information to be uploaded. Once you have logged into your account there is an “Upload Center”, the agent whom I talked with advised me to send:
- The declaration page of my homeowner’s insurance policy
- A utility bill to show active utility at that address
- A deed, mortgage statement, or tax bill to affirm ownership
- A letter stating what your situation/loss was, also clarifying why a insurance claim was not being filed (ie our loss was less than our deductible)
If you are a renter or do not own the property you reside in, you still can file for benefits. You will just need to substitute a rent receipt or lease agreement in lieu of the deed or mortgage statement also if you have renter’s insurance in lieu of homeowner’s insurance.
If you do not have the ability to upload the item listed above, she also gave me a fax number of 800-827-8112. A cover page will be needed that includes your first and last name, your FEMA application number, the disaster number (above), and the last 4 digits of your social security number. Then you would also send the documents listed above.
Hope this helps, I will share more information as it becomes available. Please reach out if you need any clarification on the above at [email protected]
